Chemical life

When I was young, the world was a wonderful place. The future looked bright. What's with all of the doomsaying nowadays?

Chloroflourocarbons weren't a problem. They were a great way to make refrigeration and spray out hairspray. Now what have we got? Gas was cheap, and cars were BIG. Now gas is expensive, and cars are still BIG!

I have fond memories of mom washing out cuts and scrapes with Phisohex, then treating it with tincture of merthiolate-and me screaming in pain the whole time. Say that: "Tincture of Merthiolate". What a great name. And it had that cool little bottle with a glass rod in it. And, of course, that fabulous pinkish brown stain that it left behind. Those were the days!

Isn't this great:

pHisoHex®
Antibacterial - Skin Cleanser
Description: pHisoHex is an antibacterial sudsing emulsion. It contains entsufon (sodium octylphenoxyethoxyethyl ether sulfonate), lanolin cholesterols, petrolatum and 3% hexachlorophene on a total weight basis. It is a colloidal dispersion of the active ingredients in a stable emulsion. Entsufon is a synthetic detergent which is effective in many kinds of water - hard or soft, cold or hot - and under acid as well as alkaline conditions.

merthiolate
Benzalkonium Cloride 0.13, Alcohol, Acetone

Anti-bacterial-killing all life forms that it comes in contact with.
Alcohol and Acetone-two great chemicals (both of which I believe have warnings on them not to use in contact with your skin)

But then it didn't matter. It worked, and you generally didn't get infected. Oh yeah, the wonder sweetener Cyclamate. (http://www.fangda.com.hk/english/) How come the rest of the world gets to use it, but the US doesn't? Sweet n Low has it elsewhere (even in Canada). Of course, Canada banned saccharine, while the US didn't. I don't know if they have it again or not. ummm, and PCB's.

In the sixties it seemed that non-prescription drugs were a mind-expanding thing. Now they're horrible death balls. Oh well, I never took drugs anyway. I miss all of those chemicals though. I miss the bright future. Things will brighten up. At least we still have nuclear power.

I feel happier now :>

Clever

Within a few blocks of my home, there are two different sets of dogs named "Booger" and "Spaz". Different owners, different kinds of little dogs. Yesterday, in a city several miles away, I came across another set of dogs called "Booger" and "Spaz"-totally different people and dogs. I thought that was amazing. I wonder if they know [of] one another. Maybe it's a club or something.

Well, whatever it is, I thought it was really clever-and very funny. And, "What's funny now, will be funny forever." [that phrase is mine-you can't repeat it or use without my permission-copyright 2006, all rights reserved]

booger and spazz-what a hoot! !:) Happiness definitely abounds. :>

Parades

Don't you just love parades? I sure do. Hanging out on the side of a closed road watching all kinds of exciting stuff just "Parade-ing" past you. Your fellow man, music, drums, marching. The most entertaining thing I can think of. A very pleasant experience.

True joy ;}

Happy New Year China!
